Princeton's HistoryPrinceton has a rich and vibrant history that stretches back to the 1800's. Some sources say that the village of Princeton was founded in 1848, but it wasn't until March 4, 1920 that the village trustees passed a resolution to become a city of the fourth class. The resolution was approved by the state and Princeton became a city. Even back in the early 1900's, Princeton was prosperous, with huge car shows during the Polish picnic which originated in 1904. The Polish picnic is still going strong over 100 years later, and is a testament to the conservation of our values and our rich history. Princeton's historic downtown is also a testament to the early days in Princeton's history, as the upstairs buildings have mostly stayed the same since they were built over 100 years ago. The citizens of Princeton are proud of our history and look to preserve it the best that they can. For more information, contact the Princeton Historical Society at:
